Course Summary

Gain the experience, knowledge and skills needed to enter a wide range of careers working with children and young people, with our T Level in Education and Childcare.

A T Level is equivalent to three A levels and is available to those aged 16-19. It is made up of 80 per cent classroom work and 20 per cent work placement.

Course Details

This course combines hands-on learning, academic study and a 45-day work experience placement with a local employer.

In Year One, you study core units covering a range of topics such as:

  • Understanding the education and childcare sector from ages 0 to 19
  • How to support children and young people’s education
  • Child development
  • Special educational needs and disability
  • Working with parents, carers, families, agencies, and support services

In Year Two, you will be required to choose an occupation specialism from:

  • Assisting Teaching
  • Early Years Education and Childcare

In your work experience, you will develop transferrable technical and practical skills based on the knowledge gained in College. This gives you opportunity to use your skills in a realistic working environment.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

T Levels are assessed through a combination of exams, coursework, and completion of your industry placement. Assessments take place at the end of each year and test the skills you have learnt so far.

Upon successful completion of the course, there will be a range of progression opportunities available to you. These include entering skilled employment, starting a higher-level apprenticeship, and going to university.
