Course Summary
We are bombarded by different media texts everyday through an ever-increasing variety of information and entertainment. Students undertaking the Media studies course will develop vital skills to analyse information from the plethora of business, entertainment and information industries we encounter. Developing a deep understanding of the media-led world in which we live will aid critical thinking and provide essential vocational training, for any student thinking of entering this interesting and varied career.
Course Details
1 Media Representations & Responses (Examination): The representations of social/cultural groups, events, issues and their underlying messages and values will be explored using a range of approaches
2 Media Production Processes (Coursework): Candidates will be required to produce three pieces of linked work. These will comprise: a pre-production reflecting research and demonstrating planning techniques; a production which has developed out of the pre-production and a report of 1200-1600 words
3 Media Investigation & Production (coursework): candidates are required to produce three pieces of linked work: a research investigation; a production (informed by the investigation) and a brief evaluation
4 Text, Industry & Audience (examination): candidates will study 3 main texts via exploration of genre, narrative, representation, industry and audience

Entry requirements
Students should have gained a grade 5 or above at GCSE Media Studies and Grade 5 or above in English.
