Daytime/working hours
A range of specified PPE will be required for this course and will cost approximately �50. A basic tool kit is recomended but not essential. The PPE required will consist of safety boots and yellow heigh vis. There are also a number of opportunities throughout the year for various construction related trips which may also incur a cost.
Course Summary
Join us for this Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery course as we give you the perfect introduction to the world of working with wood. We'll tell you more about the industry, the types of environments that carpenters work in, and show you a range of tools and skills you'll need for a career as a carpenter, Joiner, or any wood related trade.
Course Details
During the course you will gain an insight into the varied environments that carpenters can work in. You will be able to learn some of the fundamental techniques that are used in the industry and practise them in our purpose built carpentry workshop. You will learn about the basic hand tools used in the trade, you will practise using power tools to cut and sand wood, and also learn how to make wood joints. English and maths is an important part of this course During this one-year course you will cover topics such as: * Health, safety and welfare in construction * Principles of building construction * Maintaining hand tools * Preparing and using power tools * Produce woodworking joints
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 60% of the assessment, coursework will make up 10% and 30% will be made up of exams. Accuracy and completing tasks within a specified time frame will be important to the successful completion of the course. Constructive feedback from your tutor will also help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.
Entry requirements
You will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course through an initial assessment.
