Course Summary
This specification is designed to encourage candidates to:
• Acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of contemporary social processes and social changes.
• Investigate facts through research and use deduction and critical thinking.
• Use evidence to make reasoned arguments on societal issues.
Course Details
Students will learn about:
• The role and purpose of education in society, exploring gender, social class, and ethnicity differences in school achievement
• Applying of sociological research methods to the study of education with reference to the economy and to state policies
• Changing patterns of marriage, cohabitation, separation, divorce, childbearing, and the life- course, and the diversity of contemporary family and household structures
• Different beliefs in society and how they are view around the world, how powerful is this particular social institution, how does religion affect all lives and opposing sociological theories and their views on religion.
• Different theories of crime, deviance, social order, and social control. The social distribution of crime and deviance by age, ethnicity, gender, locality, and social class, including recent patterns and trends in crime.
