Student profile

Has an interest in Physical Education or Sport, wanting to learn how the body works or has an interest in how exercise and activity effects the body systems.

Why this course?

This course explores the theory behind sport and exercise, to understand how the body reacts and responds to the environment during activities. Analysing the performance requirements of sport and how to improve in a chosen sporting area.

This course builds the fundamental skills to work within the sport and exercise sector.

Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology

Students explore how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems function and the fundamentals of the energy systems.

Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

Students explore client screening and lifestyle assessment, fitness training methods and fitness programming to support improvements in a client’s health and well-being.

The course is assessed through four units.

Unit 1 - This unit is assessed by a written examination set and marked by Pearson. The examination will be one hour and 30 minutes in length.

Unit 2 - This unit will be assessed through a written task and marked by Pearson.

Unit 3 & 7 - These units are internally assessed by coursework.

GENERIC VOCATIONAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: GCSE 4-9 in English Language & Vocational course at Level 2 Merit

SUBJECT SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Pass at BTEC Level 2, OCR Cambridge National Level 2 or GCSE equivalent in Sport is desirable. Vocational course at Level 2 Merit. Science grade 4+, English grade 4+
