Entry Requirements: Five GCSEs grade 4 and above. Refer to individual subjects for the specific entry requirements.

The programme gives a broad overview of the sector, with a focus on performance, including musical skills development and professional practice.

Assessment Method

Equivalent in size to one A Level.

Four units, of which three are mandatory and two are external.

Mandatory content (83%).

External assessment (58%).

Learners taking this qualification will study three mandatory units:

• Unit 1: Practical Music Theory and Harmony

• Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry

• Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance.

Learners choose one optional unit. These have been designed to support progression to more

specialist music courses in higher education and to link with relevant occupational areas, such as:

• composing music

• improvising music

• solo performance

The course is highly practical and encourages students to listen and perform music from 1600, right up to the modern day. Students should be able to comfortably perform at Grade 4 standard on their instrument/voice.

Students will complete 60% of their coursework before their written exam at the end of the course.
