Minimum Entry Requirements
The admissions criteria for the Sixth Form are as follows:
At least a grade 4 in English Language or English Literature and a grade 4 in Mathematics
Meet the entry requirements for at least 3 full A Level / vocational subjects. Each subject has its own specific entry criteria. These can be found on the individual subject pages.
Additional considerations
A positive attitude in your chosen subjects and a respect for school aims, objectives and ethos
Commitment to the expectations of the Sixth Form and the school community
Students will not be admitted if they have not completed the appropriate paperwork
Course Summary
This course allows students to explore a variety of theatrical genres, styles and playwrights through workshop style lessons, independent reading and a variety of live performances. The course gives students the opportunity to thoroughly explore Drama and the Theatre. A variety of practical and theoretical approaches, encourages each student to explore their own interpretations and those of others, becoming confident and analytical performers and audience members.
It is vital that students work in a team to encourage everyone to experiment with different ideas and to allow each individual to achieve their potential.
All students are expected to take part in school productions and to support and lead work with younger students.
Course Details
60% Practical Focus: exploration of practitioner, styles, performance as a critical audience member, actor and director.
40% Written Focus: externally assessed written examination.
Three Key Units:
Unit 1 - Devising - based on practitioner and using extract from a play. Assessed internally. Externally moderated. Reflective working document.
Unit 2 - Practical performance of texts with written reflection. Externally assessed.
Unit 3 - Final written examination: externally assessed. Study of at least two set texts. An evaluation of live theatre and the influence of theatre makers.
