Course Summary

Course Details

Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of performance, theatre production, and dramatic theory. The course encourages learners to engage deeply with the process of creating original drama, develop advanced performance or design skills, and broaden their theatrical experience. Students explore a wide range of plays and performance styles, study influential theatre practitioners such as Punchdrunk, and apply these techniques in practical and written work. Reflection and evaluation are central to the course, helping students become confident, independent thinkers with enquiring minds.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

40% of the course requires students to create and perform an original piece of theatre inspired by a recognised practitioner, supported by a written portfolio documenting their creative process. Text in Performance worth 20% of the course requires students to perform two contrasting extracts from published plays, either as actors or designers. The final component (40%) is a written examination that assesses students’ ability to analyse live theatre, interpret a set text, and apply the techniques of influential theatre practitioners. Grading is awarded from A*-E.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at grade 5-9, including English and Mathematics.
