Course Details
Students will study three key components: The World of the Hero focuses on Homer’s Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid, exploring the epic tradition and the cultural, religious, and social values of the time. Imperial Image examines the rise of Emperor Augustus and how he shaped his rule through propaganda, literature, and visual imagery. Greek Religion explores the nature of the gods, personal experiences of the divine, and the relationship between religion, society, and philosophy in ancient Greece. Students will engage in the study of the literature, religion, and culture of the ancient world, while also exploring its legacy in the modern era. This course is ideal for students interested in history, mythology, and the foundations of Western society - it deepens their understanding of classical texts and ancient belief systems, and also develops highly transferable skills such as critical thinking, analysis, and effective communication
