Course Details
Students are invites to explore a rich variety of texts, developing a deeper appreciation for literature across different time periods. From sixteenth-century drama to modern novels and poetry, students examine how writers reflect and challenge the values of their time, applying a range of critical perspectives and exploring the social and historical contexts that shape each work. The course covers drama texts such as Othello by William Shakespeare and A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams; prose including The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and Atonement by Ian McEwan; and poetry by Carol Ann Duffy, alongside a selection from the AQA anthology Love Poetry Through the Ages, featuring poets such as William Blake.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment consists of two written exams, making up 80% of the final grade, and one coursework essay of approximately 2,500 words, worth the remaining 20%. Grades are awarded from A* to E.
