Course Summary

Picture this: you’re in a fashion studio designing your latest garment, experimenting with fabrics, sketching ideas and bringing your designs to life. Then, once your piece is complete, you grab your phone to create some content to promote your work on social media, just like a real fashion brand.

If you love fashion, creativity and expressing your own style, this course is the perfect fit for you. With a focus on sustainable fashion, you’ll learn how to design and make original garments while exploring modern trends, branding and content creation within the fashion industry.

Course Details

This course focuses on developing sustainable fashion through ethical practices. You will develop practical, technical and creative skills using professional studio equipment and industry-style processes.

The course places a strong emphasis on sustainability, repair, upcycling and responsible fashion practices, encouraging students to rethink how clothing is designed, produced, worn and valued.

You will explore a range of modules including:

• Developing practical skills in pattern cutting, garment construction and tailoring.

• Learning about fashion illustration and creative design development.

• Using professional studio equipment, including industrial sewing machines.

• Exploring fabric experimentation, including screen printing and textile design processes.

• Understanding sustainable and ethical fashion practices, including the Six R’s of fashion.

• Gaining skills in repair, alteration, upcycling and circular fashion approaches.

• Studying fashion marketing, branding, self-promotion and social media content creation.

• Learning how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are shaping the modern fashion industry.

• Completing industry-focused projects, live briefs and collaborative creative work.

• Building a professional portfolio through practical art and design units.

Alongside your studies, you’ll complete a tailored work experience placement with a leading industry specialist. Our dedicated Industry Liaison Officers will match you with a placement that supports your interests and career goals, with many students going on to secure paid work as a result.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will learn through practical lessons in our state-of-the-art design studios. This course will be assessed with a range of projects throughout the year. You will receive detailed feedback to help you improve your skills and knowledge.

This is a highly supportive course, designed to guide your progress with clear, practical advice so you can continue building your skills and confidence

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for students who have achieved a 4/C grade in English and Maths.

You will also be asked to show some examples of your work when you apply. This could include drawings, sketches, paintings or photography that demonstrates your creativity and potential.

By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong foundation in fashion and marketing practices. The strong focus on practical making, garment construction and technical fashion skills will help you build the foundations needed for further study and careers within the fashion and creative industries.

You can finish with a Level 2 qualification and get a skilled job however, this programme is designed to help you move toward a Level 3 qualification, which can lead to advanced jobs or apprenticeships.
