Course Details
Component 1: UK Politics and Core Political Ideas
Political Participation, students will study: Democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media.
Core Political Ideas, students will study: Conservatism, liberalism, socialism.
Component 2: UK Government and Non-core Political Ideas
UK Government, students will study: The constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive, relationships between the branches of power
Non-core political ideas, students will study: One idea from the following: anarchism, ecologism, feminism, multiculturalism, nationalism
Component 3: Comparative Politics
Global Comparative Politics: Sovereignty and globalisation, global governance: political and economic, global governance: human rights and environmental, power and developments, regionalism and the European Union, comparative theories
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Exam Board – Edexcel. All assessment is comprised of a written examination lasting 2 hours, with 84 marks. Each paper is weighted equally at 33 ½ %.

Politics A-Level is an exciting subject that investigates a range of contemporary and classical political issues and delves into a variety of theoretical and practical topics. The knowledge gained through the course would greatly complement other humanities subjects such as history, and aspects of geography. Studying Politics A-Level could also support a path into higher education in subjects such as Politics, International Relations, Philosophy Politics and Economics, and History. Alternatively, the analytical skills that are developed would support pursuit of employment in sectors such as management, finance, government, and industry and business environments.
