Course Summary
The ICT BTEC Extended Certificate is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT. It is a subject that most employers now expect from all their employees, but above all of this, it is one of the most exciting and rapidly expanding subject in the world, with pathways to careers such as games design, Cyber Security, web design, technical support ad even software development.
This course will enable you to gain skills to work within the IT industry or use IT effectively within other employment sectors and covers a range of up-to-date and relevant topics such as web development, how social media is used in business and develop a campaign for a local company and tests your skills with database management.
This two year course can lead to higher education on an HND or Degree in Computer Studies or alternatively, straight into an exciting career in computing.
Course Details
IT is a subject that most employers now expect from all their employees. This course will enable you to gain skills to work within the IT industry or use IT effectively within other employment sectors.
You will study four units across the two years, with three mandatory and two external.
Unit 1: Information Technology Systems
Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information
Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business
Unit 6: Website Development.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Internal Assessment takes the form of two coursework units, one of which is mandatory and one of which is optional. This constitutes 42% of the final grade
External Assessment consists of one exam and one controlled assessment and constitutes 58% of the final grade.
Entry requirements
5 9-4 GCSEs
4 in GCSE ICT or Computer Science or equivalent.
