The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the Media and the issues and debates with it as well as developing practical media skills, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in the media.

The qualification consists of four units across the two years, three of which are mandatory and two external.

Unit 1: Representations

Unit 4: Pre-production Portfolio

Unit 8: Responding to a Commission

Unit 10: Film Production Fiction.

Internal Assessment takes the form of two coursework units, one of which is mandatory and one of which is optional. This constitutes 42% of the final grade.

External Assessment consists of one exam and one controlled assessment and constitutes 58% of the final grade.

A minimum of a Merit in BTEC 1st Award in Media (if studied)

Students completing this Certificate can progress to University or College to study BTEC Higher Qualifications (Level 4/5). Due to the vocational nature of this qualification, students will also be able to build the skills necessary to seek employment in a media related industry.
