Course Summary

How would you like to be the next successful entrepreneur? Or perhaps have work your way up a multi-national company or have a career in leadership and management? This A-level Business course introduces you to all you need to know about working in business, providing a solid foundation for further study. With a focus on helping you to become a good decision maker, you’ll learn essential managerial skills, alongside techniques to help you become an analytical problem solver. These skills are all highly sought after and valued in a wide range of careers. So if you are undecided about career path to take, don’t worry because Business A Level will give you a great foundation because it is relevant to so many areas!

If you’d like to study business, finance or management at university, A-level Business provides an excellent foundation. The skills you learn are transferable across a broad range of subjects and careers. Whatever you choose to do in the future, you’ll find that the things you learn in this course will help. For example, you’ll probably work with lots of different people, so knowledge of motivational theory will help you to work well with others and help them achieve their potential.

Course Details

Students will consider how a range of organisations in a variety of contexts (e.g. large/small, UK/global, service/manufacture) operate in today’s increasingly global business environment.
Topics to be studied include business basics – such as the different ownership types, external influences on business, business aims and objectives – as well as leadership and decision making, marketing, operations management, financial planning and human resources management. The course further focuses on strategic decision making and how businesses cope with - and plan for - change.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is by three (A level) examined units in the summer of 2024. The units contribute equally to the final grade.

Entry requirements

5 9-4 GCSEs or equivalent to include:

· A minimum of Distinction in BTEC First Award in Business OR a grade 5 in GCSE Business Studies

· A minimum of Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics.

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses. It could lead you onto higher education or NVQ Levels 3 and 4 in areas of business such as business, management, economics and marketing.
