Course Summary
Our ‘Discovery’ courses enable students to discover and develop independent living skills, to prepare them for adulthood.
Course Details
Students learn many life skills that are delivered within the Foundation and Inclusive learning department. Once a term we set new individualised targets to monitor and review students’ progress in these areas.
These skills include:
- Care
- Safety in the home
- Shopping
- Cooking
- Community skills
- Travel training
Students also get to learn within areas of the College such as Drama, Sports and Art. We work in partnership with social workers and health professionals and use structured visual communication as a method to support our learning.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is personalised to each student using a baseline assessment. Students will create a portfolio of evidence to support their skill building throughout the course.
Your next steps...
Students who demonstrate continued progression in their individual targets can remain on the Discovery course for up to three years, with a planned progression to supported living in partnership with adult social care.
