Course Details

Students explore significant periods of political, social, and economic change in both Russia (1855–1964) and Britain (1951–2007). Through these case studies, students examine key themes such as change and continuity, cause and consequence, and develop the ability to analyse and interpret historical events with depth and precision. The course encourages critical thinking and helps students draw connections between past and present issues, enhancing their understanding of contemporary society. Students will explore each topic through six key questions, allowing for structured and comprehensive analysis.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Alongside the exam units, students will complete a 4,500-word coursework assignment, which involves evaluating a range of historical sources and interpretations, tracing key themes over a 100-year period. Assessment includes two final written examinations, covering breadth and depth studies (worth 80% of the final grade), and one internally assessed coursework piece (worth 20%).

Entry requirements

Grade 9-5 in five GCSEs including Mathematics and a minimum Grade 6 in History, English Language and English Literature.
