You’ll explore every stage of visual development for games – from sketching initial ideas to building fully-realised 3D assets and environments. This course blends artistic practice with industry-standard workflows, giving you the space to specialise, experiment and build a portfolio that reflects who you want to be as a creator.
Course Details
You’ll develop a broad and practical skillset covering:
- 3D Modelling and Sculpting – Create objects, props, characters and environments using industry software.
- Animation Fundamentals – Gain an understanding of the basic principles of animation and bring your characters to life with simple motion, character turnarounds, posing and presentation.
- Texturing and Digital Painting – Build materials, surface detail and stylised or realistic textures.
- Concept Art and Visual Development – Research, design and illustrate ideas for worlds, characters and gameplay.
- Character and Creature Design – Explore anatomy, silhouettes, iterations and personality through art.
- Esports and Gameplay Production – Explore competitive gaming, streaming and gameplay-focused content creation. Learn how to capture gameplay footage, present matches, analyse player experiences and create media surrounding gaming culture and online communities.
- Stop Motion and Experimental Animation – Experiment with stop motion techniques using practical models, figures and props. Learn how animation principles, lighting, camera positioning and editing can bring characters and scenes to life frame-by-frame.
- Games Engine Basics – Import assets into a games engine to showcase your work.
- Art Direction and Creative Workflow – Build moodboards, research packs and production documents that reflect professional practice.
- Throughout the course you’ll work on individual and collaborative projects, leading to a strong, diverse portfolio.
