Course Summary

Do you dream of becoming a Games Designer, Visual Effects Artist, or Character Designer? Are you interested in exploring the processes that go into the art of games & film? This course will introduce you to all of this and more. Join our two-year Level 3 UAL accredited course (Games Art, Visual Effects and Animation) - Throughout this two year course you will acquire the skills needed to hone in your creativity to focus in on a specific area of the creative industry, be that in the ever-growing Games Industry or the Film Effects Industry. You will develop your basic art and digital skills whilst learning the basics of everything from 3D Modelling to Character Concepts, from Animation to Story writing and VFX.

Course Details

During this exciting Level 3 course, you will develop the skills and critical thinking of a designer within a highly creative media environment. You will be introduced to industry-standard software and develop skills in 3D modelling, digital art, animation, film visual effects and video editing, as well as game design, games engines, styles, and interactive media. Over the two years, you will have gained the skills you need to meet the creative challenges of university and in the workplace.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your assessment will consist of eight units split over 4 main projects in the first year and another five units in the second year which focus on creating portfolio pieces. These projects will consist of practical work, coursework, and research culminating in a final project at the end of each year. Your work will be internally marked and externally moderated by our examining body UAL (University of the Arts London).

Entry requirements

Level then determined by audition or portfolio. With little or no portfolio and/or performance experience you will be advised to study on the most appropriate route to build your distinctive portfolio and gain skills and knowledge to ensure success at higher levels of study.

Your next steps...

Once you have completed this course, you will have the equivalent of four A-Levels, which will enable you to progress onto to university. You could explore several creative options, including BA (Hons) degree courses in Games Design, Games Concept Art & Illustration, Visual Effects, and so much more. There are several career opportunities available in the world of computer game design, such as a game designer, animator, Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) artist, or concept artist for games.
