Course Summary

Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) at Brockhill aims to prepare students for the mathematical demands Higher Education and work where there is a distinct mathematical or statistical element, but where the mathematical demands do not stretch to a requirement for A level Mathematics. It consolidates students’ mathematical understanding, builds their confidence and competence in applying mathematical techniques to solve a range of problems and introduces them to new techniques and concepts that will prepare them for further study and future employment within a broad range of academic, professional and technical fields.

All Students cover Compulsory content Optional content Analysis of data The normal distribution Maths for personal finance Probabilities and estimation Estimation Correlation and regression Critical analysis of given data and models Critical path and risk analysis Expectation Cost benefit analysis Graphical methods Rates of change Exponential functions

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This is a linear qualification. In order to achieve the award, students must complete all exams in May/June in a single year. All assessments must be taken in the same series.


Entry requirements

Students should generally have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 9 – 4. To apply for this course students must have achieved a Grade 4 or 5 in their GCSE Mathematics course and have an enjoyment of Mathematics.
