Course Summary
Course Details
Students will explore how media shapes and reflects society through the analysis of a wide range of media texts, including film, television, radio, print, and online platforms. Students will apply four key media concepts—media language, representation, industries, and audiences—while engaging with a variety of theoretical approaches such as postmodernism, narrative theory, social theory, and gender and post-colonial perspectives. The course also provides a practical element, offering students the opportunity to plan, produce, and evaluate their own media products, such as short films or digital content. This combination of theory and production equips students with both analytical and creative skills.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is divided into three components: two are externally assessed exams, and the third is a non-examined practical project based on media production principles. Grades are awarded from A* to E.
Entry requirements
A Levels: 5 GCSEs at grade 5-9, including mathematics and grade 6 in English Language or English Literature.
