Course Summary
Course Details
Students develop creative and technical skills across a broad range of photographic media, techniques, and processes. The course blends traditional and digital methods, encouraging experimentation in areas such as portraiture, landscape (urban, rural, or coastal), still life, experimental imagery, installation, and video/film. Students will be encouraged to explore how photography communicates ideas, emotions, and meaning, while developing an understanding of how images relate to wider social, environmental, and cultural contexts. This fosters not only technical ability but also visual literacy and critical thinking.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is based on two components: a coursework portfolio worth 60% of the final grade, and an externally set project worth 40%. Both are assessed against four objectives focusing on research, experimentation, recording, and final outcomes. All work is internally marked and externally moderated. Final grades are awarded from A* to E.
Entry requirements
A Levels: 5 GCSEs at grade 5-9, including English and mathematics and a grade 5 or level 2 merit in Art.
