Course Summary

Course Details

Students develop fluency, confidence, and accuracy in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Spanish. The course immerses learners in the cultural, political, and social issues of the Spanish-speaking world through the study of contemporary topics, literary texts, and films. Students explore themes such as modern values, gender equality, immigration, racism, regional identity, music, cinema, and political movements. They also study one literary work and one film from a set list — examples include La casa de Bernarda Alba or Volver. These topics are paired with advanced grammar and translation skills to strengthen overall linguistic ability.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment takes place at the end of Year 13 through three final exams: a Listening, Reading, and Writing paper (50%), a Writing paper based on the film and text studied (20%), and a Speaking exam (30%) including an individual research project. Grades awarded are A*-E.
