Course Summary

Learn the skills you will need to begin a career in the IT sector through this one-year Level 2 course.

This course provides a broad foundation in software and hardware computer skills, helping students develop confidence to enter a role in the IT industry. It is suitable for beginners or those with basic IT knowledge who want to improve their skills for work or education.

This course is suitable for students who have achieved a 4/C grade or higher in English and Maths.

Course Details

You will be taught an overview of technical IT skills, including hardware, networking, website and employability skills. Theory knowledge will also be applied against your modules, which include:

  • Software Development
  • Computing in the Workplace
  • Website Development
  • Computational Thinking
  • Multimedia Products Development
  • Technology Systems

This knowledge will be applied through a wide range of projects and assignments during your course.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment will take place through practical assignments, for which you will be graded against unit criteria. There will also be some written assignments and online exams.

Entry requirements

This programme is designed to help you move toward a Level 3 qualification, which can lead to advanced jobs or apprenticeships. You can finish with a Level 2 qualification and get a skilled job at the end of the course but progressing to Level 3 will give you more career choices and improve your future earning potential. It also opens doors to further studies, like Higher Education and Higher or Degree Apprenticeships. These can lead you from advanced technician or supervisor roles at Level 3 to management or professional status as you continue studying. To join this programme, you'll need the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at grade 3, ideally including English and maths.
