Course Summary

Working in the health and social care sector is very rewarding. The care sector is forever growing and in need of dedicated skilled professionals to help provide support.

This programme is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to progress into this exciting sector

This course is suitable for students who have achieved a 4/C grade in English and Maths.

Course Details

On this course, you will gain a strong introduction to the health and social care sector, focusing on the person-centred values and approaches required to work with individuals in care settings.

You will study:

  • Human lifespan development, exploring how people grow and develop from birth through to later adulthood
  • Meeting individual care and support needs, where you will learn how to support individuals in a way that respects their needs, preferences and wellbeing

You will develop essential employability and transferable skills, including, critical thinking and problem-solving, effective communication and teamwork and independent learning and research skills.

After learning about health and social care you will be able to go into a work placement. There you will be providing support and services, either in a team or individually, to individuals who have physical, mental, or social needs. Our dedicated Industry Liaison Officers will match you with a placement that supports your interests and career goals, with many students going on to secure paid work as a result.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will learn through practical lessons in our health and social care classrooms, with access to new assistive technologies. You will also complete a work placement with a local employer.

his qualification is assessed through assessed coursework, designed to reflect real-life and professional contexts. You will be assessed through written assignments, research-based tasks and practical activities.

There are no external exams. Assessment allows you to demonstrate your understanding, apply knowledge to realistic scenarios, and develop the academic skills needed for university-level study.

Entry requirements

Equivalent of 4 grade 4s including English and maths at 4 (or pass at level 2 where you will have developed a context of maths in the same/related subject).

Your next steps...

After completing this course, you can progress to university or a higher apprenticeship in areas such as nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, counselling or social work. You may also choose to begin your career directly in the health and social care sector.

This qualification carries UCAS points and is widely recognised by universities when studied alongside other Level 3 qualifications, helping you take the next step in supporting and caring for others.

Many of our Social Care alumni are now working within the Health and Social Care industry.
